2) APME operates under the overall guidance of a General Assembly, consisting of the plastics business chief executives of the member companies.
Meeting twice yearly, this body elects the President, and approves accounts, budgets, policies and general programmes.
A Steering Committee of nine member companies is chaired by the President and comprises its appointed Vice-Presidents and Treasurer. It directs and controls the general actvities of the Association.
Three Steering Committee Working Groups cover : Products and General industry Issues (including competitiveness); Technical and Environmental; Communicatons.
Standing Committees, made up of executives and experts from member companies, deal with individual areas of interests.
A number of groups are concerned with broad issues such as the economy and the environment while others handle specific product-related matters.
The Standing Committees are co-ordinated and serviced by a Secretariat, headed by the Director.
A Technical and Environmental Centre, staffed by three industry specialists, develops and manages technical projects as well is participating, with the Director General, in representing the industry in all relevant EU debates.
A Communications manager and external consultance, oversees a significant communications programme.

2) With over forty members companies, APME represents more than ninety percent of the plastic prodution capacity in Europe.
APME co-operates with the European chemical industry organisation CEFIC, the Association of Petrochemicals Producers in Europe APPE, as well as with the European Plastics Converters (EuPC) and manufacturers of plastics processing equipment (EUROMAP).
Consultation on specific themes includes other industry and trade bodies as well, including national plastics industry federations in Europe and overseas and many bodies representing user industries.
