2) CIB regroups the major building research institutes worldwide as well as other private and public research organisations, professional associations, employers federations, industries, enterprises contractors, universities, technical high Schools, private architects, researchers in construction and a non-neglectile number of Information and Documentation centres all in the desire, in the spirit of co-operation to work on themes of a general interest for construction.
CIB has a consultative statute within the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) and in the United Nations Organisation for Industrial Development (ONUDI).

3) Der CIB umfasst die bedeutendsten weltweiten Forschungsinstitute im Bauwesen sowie andere private oder öffentliche Forschunsorganismen, berufliche und geschäftliche Vereinigungen, Arbeitgeber-Verbände, Industrien, Geschäftbetriebe, Baugesellschaften, Universitäten, Technische Hochschulen, private Architekten, Forscher im Bauwesen und in einer nicht geringeren Anzahl Informations- und Dokumentationszentren, alle mit dem Wunsch, im Geist der Zusammenarbeit Themen von allgemeinem Interesse im Bauwesen zu bearbeiten.
Der CIB hat eine beratende Stellung im Wirtschafts- und Sozialral der Vereinten Nationen (ECOSOC) und in der Organisation der Vereinten Nationen für industrielle Entwicklung (ONUDI).

2) CIB strives to publish as extensive as possible the results of its Working commissions and this in the form of technical reports, recommendations, lists etc.
Every two months the Journal of CIB "Building Research and Practice" is issued as well as an Information Bulletin.
These issues present fundamental articles on construction research problems as well as informations of worldwide interest.
Two publications between the various publications of CIB merit a special mention : The review of the Working Commission's work and the International Yearbook of the Organisations for the Development, Information and Research in Construction, which constitutes a major source of reference for professionnals interested in construction research.

3) Der CIB bemüht sich, die Ergebnisse seiner Abeitskommissionen so ausführlich wie möglich zu veröffentlichen, in der Form von technischen Berichten, Empfehlungen, Listen, usw.
Alle zwei Monate erscheint die Zeitschrift des CIB "Building Research and Practice" und ebenso ein Informationsbulletin.
Diese Ausgaben beinhalten grundlegende Artikel über Forschungsprobleme im Bauwesen und ebenso Informationen über Fragen von weltweitem Interesse.
Unter den verschiedenen Veröffentlichungen des CIB sollten zwei besonders erwähnt werden ; die Übersicht über die Arbeiten der Arbeitskommissionen und das internationale Jahrbuch der Organisationen zur Entwicklung, Information und Forschung im Bauwesen, die eine wichtige Angabenquelle für alle an der Bauforschung interessierten Fachleute darstellen.

Full membership : multidisciplinary building research institutes of national standing with a broad field or research.
Associate membership : sectorial research and documentation institutes, departments or faculties of universities, companies, consultants, contractors, etc.
Individual membership : experts interested in one selected CIB activity but who do not represent an organisation.
